Description
Blueberry dumplings are the ultimate sweet treat. These fluffy dumplings are filled with fresh blueberries and topped with a deliciously rich, sugary sauce. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or even as a snack.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
2 tablespoons butter (for sauce)
1/4 cup sugar (for sauce)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and egg. Stir into the dry ingredients until just combined. The dough should be thick but slightly sticky.
- Gently fold in the blueberries and sugar for the filling, being careful not to break up the berries too much.
- Spoon the dough into small mounds and place them on a greased baking dish or a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake the dumplings for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top and cooked through.
- While the dumplings are baking, make the sauce by combining the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
- Once the dumplings are done, remove them from the oven and drizzle with the warm vanilla sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a twist, you could add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to the vanilla sauce for extra warmth and depth.
If you prefer a sweeter, richer dough, substitute part of the milk with heavy cream or add more sugar to the dough.
To make the recipe vegan, swap the butter for a plant-based alternative and use non-dairy milk and a flax egg.
For a different fruit flavor, substitute blueberries with raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or even diced peaches or apples.
