Description

Blueberry dumplings are the ultimate sweet treat. These fluffy dumplings are filled with fresh blueberries and topped with a deliciously rich, sugary sauce. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or even as a snack.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup butter, melted

1 large egg

1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

1/4 cup sugar (for filling)

2 tablespoons butter (for sauce)

1/4 cup sugar (for sauce)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and egg. Stir into the dry ingredients until just combined. The dough should be thick but slightly sticky.
  4. Gently fold in the blueberries and sugar for the filling, being careful not to break up the berries too much.
  5. Spoon the dough into small mounds and place them on a greased baking dish or a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake the dumplings for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top and cooked through.
  7. While the dumplings are baking, make the sauce by combining the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
  8. Once the dumplings are done, remove them from the oven and drizzle with the warm vanilla sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a twist, you could add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to the vanilla sauce for extra warmth and depth.

If you prefer a sweeter, richer dough, substitute part of the milk with heavy cream or add more sugar to the dough.

To make the recipe vegan, swap the butter for a plant-based alternative and use non-dairy milk and a flax egg.

For a different fruit flavor, substitute blueberries with raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or even diced peaches or apples.
