Description

A hearty and comforting casserole featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, thinly sliced potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese, perfect for cozy family meals.

Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

3 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

1 cup milk

½ cup sour cream

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided

1 tbsp butter

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the diced onion for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart. Season with paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the milk and sour cream. Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then spoon the beef mixture over them. Add the remaining potatoes on top.
  6. Pour the milk-cheese mixture evenly over the entire dish.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Swap ground beef with turkey or chicken for a leaner version.

Add mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.

Use different cheeses like mozzarella or pepper jack for variety.

Ensure ingredients are gluten-free if needed.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
