Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for about 3 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well until fully combined.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Top the beef mixture with a layer of frozen tater tots.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is hot and bubbly.
- Let the casserole sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
You can substitute the cheddar cheese with mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or a blend of cheeses.
If you want to use fresh potatoes instead of tater tots, cube and bake or fry them first for a similar texture.
This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to a day before baking.
