Description

A decadent chocolate lemon mousse dome featuring a velvety chocolate mousse base topped with a refreshing lemon mousse, combining rich chocolate and tangy lemon flavors for a visually stunning and delicious dessert.

Ingredients

6 oz dark chocolate, chopped

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

2 teaspoons lemon zest

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoons gelatin (or agar-agar for a vegetarian option)

1 1/2 cups crushed chocolate cookies or graham crackers (optional)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a simmering pot of water (double boiler method) or in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring in between.
  2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate until fully combined. Set aside to cool.
  4. In a small saucepan, gently heat the lemon juice and zest over low heat. Once warm, dissolve the gelatin in the lemon mixture (if using agar-agar, follow the package instructions for the same step).
  5. Remove from heat and allow the lemon mixture to cool slightly.
  6. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  7. Slowly fold the cooled lemon mixture into the whipped cream until fully combined.
  8. For the base (optional), combine the crushed chocolate cookies or graham crackers with the melted butter. Press the mixture into the bottom of a round mold or dome-shaped pan to form a crust. Chill in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set.
  9. Once the base is set (if using), layer the chocolate mousse into the mold, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  10. Gently spoon the lemon mousse on top of the chocolate mousse, smoothing the surface.
  11. Refrigerate the mousse dome for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to set completely.
  12. Once fully set, carefully unmold the mousse dome onto a serving platter. Garnish with additional lemon zest, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute dark chocolate with white chocolate.

Swap the lemon mousse for berry mousse (such as strawberry or raspberry) for a fruity twist.

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free cookies or omit the crust entirely.

Add a tablespoon of a liqueur like Grand Marnier or Chambord to the chocolate mousse for a richer flavor.

This dessert can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
