Description
This creamy avocado grilled cheese is a fresh and flavorful twist on a classic sandwich. Buttery toasted bread, rich mashed avocado, and gooey melted cheese create a quick, satisfying meal with a hint of citrus brightness.
Ingredients
2 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or preferred kind)
1 ripe avocado
1 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
1 tsp lime or lemon juice
Salt and pepper, to taste
2–3 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack)
1 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Mash the avocado in a small bowl with mayonnaise (if using), lime or lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Leave it slightly chunky for texture.
- Spread the avocado mixture on one slice of bread, then layer the cheese on top and close with the second slice of bread.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately while warm.
Notes
Use plant-based cheese and butter for a vegan version.
Add sliced tomato or crispy bacon for extra flavor.
Spice it up with pepper jack cheese or a dash of hot sauce.
Sprinkle in chili flakes or herbs for added punch.
Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in the fridge for 1 day.
Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven for best results.
