Description

Juicy, pan-fried Frikadellen are traditional German meat patties made with ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, and spices. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, they are a hearty and budget-friendly comfort food.


Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 egg

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 tablespoon mustard (preferably German or Dijon)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)

12 tablespoons oil for frying


Instructions

  1. Soak the breadcrumbs in milk for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, egg, mustard, salt, pepper, paprika, and optional parsley.
  3. Add the soaked breadcrumbs and mix until fully combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6–8 oval patties.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve warm with mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, fresh bread, or a side salad.

Notes

Mix ground pork with beef for extra juiciness.

Add nutmeg, caraway seeds, or hot paprika for traditional or spicy variations.

Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and dairy-free milk if needed.

Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze individually for longer storage.

Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes as an alternative to frying.
