Description
Juicy, pan-fried Frikadellen are traditional German meat patties made with ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, and spices. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, they are a hearty and budget-friendly comfort food.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon mustard (preferably German or Dijon)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
1–2 tablespoons oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak the breadcrumbs in milk for about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, egg, mustard, salt, pepper, paprika, and optional parsley.
- Add the soaked breadcrumbs and mix until fully combined.
- Shape the mixture into 6–8 oval patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve warm with mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, fresh bread, or a side salad.
Notes
Mix ground pork with beef for extra juiciness.
Add nutmeg, caraway seeds, or hot paprika for traditional or spicy variations.
Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and dairy-free milk if needed.
Store in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze individually for longer storage.
Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes as an alternative to frying.
