Description
These homemade chocolate turtles feature clusters of toasted pecans, gooey melted caramel, and a generous coating of smooth chocolate. They’re easy to make with simple ingredients and no special tools required—perfect for gifts, parties, or snacking.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups pecan halves
30 soft caramel candies, unwrapped
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate, if preferred)
Sea salt, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange small clusters of 3–4 pecan halves a few inches apart.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine unwrapped caramel candies and heavy cream. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each until fully melted and smooth.
- Let caramel cool slightly, then spoon a small amount over each pecan cluster, ensuring the caramel connects the nuts.
- In a separate microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in short bursts, stirring until smooth.
- Spoon melted chocolate over each caramel-pecan cluster and smooth the tops with the back of a spoon.
- Optional: Sprinkle sea salt on top of each turtle for added flavor.
- Let the turtles set at room temperature or refrigerate for about 30 minutes until firm.
Notes
Use dark or milk chocolate based on your taste preference.
Toasting pecans enhances flavor—toast at 350°F (175°C) for 6–8 minutes.
For a vegan version, use plant-based caramels, dairy-free cream, and vegan chocolate.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week or in the fridge for 2–3 weeks.
Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
