Description

This Mediterranean flatbread is a soft and fluffy bread flavored with oregano, thyme, and garlic. It’s versatile, perfect for dipping or topping with your favorite ingredients.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

3/4 cup warm water

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

Extra olive oil for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, oregano, thyme, garlic powder, and baking powder.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with a little olive oil.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the flatbreads are golden and slightly crisp.
  10. Remove from the oven and serve warm with your favorite dips or toppings.

Notes

Store leftover flatbreads in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days.

Reheat in the oven or a dry skillet to regain a fresh-baked texture.

For a different flavor, add rosemary or basil to the dough.

For a cheesy version, stuff with shredded mozzarella or feta before rolling out the dough.

Whole wheat flour can be substituted for a healthier, more earthy flavor.
