Description
Jamu Juice is a traditional Indonesian wellness drink made from fresh turmeric, ginger, citrus juice, and a touch of sweetener. Known for its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties, this golden elixir is both refreshing and nourishing.
Ingredients
5 oz fresh turmeric root, peeled and chopped (or 2 tbsp ground turmeric)
2 oz fresh ginger root, peeled and chopped
4 cups water
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
Juice of 1 lemon or 1 orange
A pinch of ground black pepper
Instructions
- Blend turmeric, ginger, and water in a high-speed blender until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove pulp.
- Stir in sweetener, citrus juice, and a pinch of black pepper.
- Transfer to a jar or bottle and refrigerate. Serve chilled or over ice.
Notes
Add cinnamon or cardamom for extra warmth and depth.
Use more ginger for a spicier kick.
Substitute coconut water for regular water for a hydrating twist.
Use both lemon and orange juice for robust citrus flavor.
Reheat gently if you prefer to drink it warm.
