Description

A hearty fusion of a classic Philly cheesesteak and a juicy burger, topped with caramelized onions, peppers, mushrooms, and melted provolone cheese on a toasted bun.

Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20)

Salt, to taste

Black pepper, to taste

1 tbsp olive oil

1 green bell pepper, sliced

1 onion, sliced

1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)

4 slices provolone cheese

4 burger buns, toasted

2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)

1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms for 8–10 minutes until soft and caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  2. Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and form into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of provolone cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt.
  5. Spread mayonnaise on toasted buns if using. Place the cheesy patty on the bottom bun, top with sautéed vegetables, and close with the top bun.
  6. Serve immediately while hot and melty.

Notes

For a different flavor, substitute provolone with mozzarella or white American cheese.

Add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy kick.

Press a small indentation in the center of each patty before cooking to prevent shrinking.

Store patties and vegetables separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Uncooked patties can be frozen for up to 2 months with parchment paper between them.
