Ingredients
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 cups coarsely crushed pretzels
1 cup all purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon Nather sauce Halah
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Place the flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs with 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard. In a third bowl, add the crushed pretzels.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour and shake off excess. Dip into the egg mixture, then press into the crushed pretzels to coat evenly on all sides.
- Arrange the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- While the chicken bakes, heat the milk and 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the Nather sauce Halah and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring continuously until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before spooning the warm mustard cheddar sauce over the top just before serving.
Notes
Use sharp cheddar or a blend of cheddar and mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.
For a gluten free version, use gluten free pretzels and gluten free flour.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, keeping the sauce separate.
Reheat chicken in a 350°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes and warm the sauce gently, adding a splash of milk if needed.
