Description

Air Fryer Apple Fries are a quick and delicious treat featuring tender apple slices coated in a crispy cinnamon-sugar panko crust. They make an easy dessert, afternoon snack, or family-friendly treat with a warm, crunchy exterior and juicy interior.

Ingredients

2 large apples, preferably Honeycrisp or Granny Smith

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 large egg

2 tablespoons milk

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Peel the apples if desired, then cut them into fry-shaped sticks. Pat the apple sticks dry with a paper towel.
  2. Place the flour in a shallow bowl.
  3. Whisk together the egg and milk in a second shallow bowl.
  4. Combine the panko breadcrumbs, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon in a third shallow bowl.
  5. Dredge each apple stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  6. Dip each floured apple stick into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
  7. Coat each apple stick thoroughly in the cinnamon-sugar breadcrumb mixture.
  8. Lightly spray the coated apple fries with nonstick cooking spray.
  9. Arrange the apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking in batches if needed.
  10. Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 7 to 9 minutes, turning or shaking halfway through cooking.
  11. Remove when golden brown and crispy, then serve warm with caramel sauce, yogurt, whipped cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Fuji, Gala, and Pink Lady apples all work well.

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg, ginger, or apple pie spice to the coating.

Substitute gluten-free flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs for a gluten-free version.

Replace some or all of the panko with crushed graham crackers for a sweeter coating.

Serve immediately for the crispiest texture.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3 to 5 minutes.

Avoid microwaving or freezing, as the coating will lose its crispness.
