Description
These Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Carrot Fries are a delicious, easy-to-make side dish with tender centers, lightly crispy golden edges, and a savory garlic Parmesan coating. Ready in just 30 minutes, they make a flavorful alternative to traditional French fries.
Ingredients
3–4 medium carrots (150–180 g)
1 tablespoon olive oil (16 g)
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons reduced-fat grated Parmesan cheese (15 g)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
1 pinch freshly cracked black pepper (optional)
Fresh parsley or parsley flakes, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the garlic oil: In a small bowl, combine the crushed garlic and olive oil. Stir until the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the oil.
- Prepare the carrots: Wash the carrots thoroughly and dry them completely with a clean kitchen towel. Remove the tops, cut each carrot in half, and slice lengthwise into evenly sized, fry-shaped strips.
- Coat the carrots: Place the carrot strips in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with the garlic-infused olive oil and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
- Add the Parmesan and seasonings: In a separate small bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. Sprinkle half of the mixture over the carrots and toss gently. Add the remaining mixture and toss again to coat evenly.
- Arrange in the air fryer: Place the seasoned carrot fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving space between the pieces for proper air circulation. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry: Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 16–20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Check near the end of cooking and remove when the carrots are fork-tender with lightly crispy, golden edges. Watch carefully to prevent the garlic and Parmesan from burning.
- Garnish and serve: Transfer the cooked carrot fries to a serving plate. Sprinkle with fresh parsley or dried parsley flakes and serve immediately while warm. Enjoy with garlic yogurt sauce, ranch dressing, or spicy mayonnaise.
Notes
For extra-crispy edges, cut the carrots into thinner, evenly sized strips and dry them thoroughly before adding the oil and seasonings.
Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Cook in batches to allow hot air to circulate evenly around the carrots.
For a spicier version, increase the crushed red pepper to 1/2 teaspoon or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
For Italian herb carrot fries, add 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, oregano, or basil to the Parmesan mixture.
For smoky paprika carrot fries, add 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika before air frying.
For lemon Parmesan carrot fries, sprinkle fresh lemon zest and a few drops of lemon juice over the cooked carrots.
For a dairy-free version, replace the Parmesan with dairy-free Parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast.
Carrot fries naturally have more moisture than potato fries, so expect tender centers and lightly crispy edges rather than the crunch of traditional French fries.
Peeling the carrots is optional. Scrub fresh carrots thoroughly, or peel them if the skins are thick or rough.
Serve with garlic yogurt sauce, ranch dressing, spicy mayonnaise, honey mustard, or lemon herb yogurt dip.
To prepare ahead, wash, dry, and slice the carrots up to 2 days in advance. Refrigerate in an airtight container and add the oil and seasonings just before cooking.
Store leftover cooked carrot fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. A paper towel inside the container can help absorb excess moisture.
For freezing, arrange cooled carrot fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm. Transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container and store for up to 2 months. The texture may soften after thawing.
To reheat in the air fryer, cook at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
To reheat in the oven, spread the fries on a baking sheet and heat at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway through.
To reheat in the microwave, heat for approximately 30–60 seconds. The fries will be softer than when reheated in the air fryer.
