Description

A cozy dessert pizza featuring soft homemade cinnamon dough topped with warm spiced apples, buttery cinnamon streusel, and a rich homemade salted caramel drizzle. Perfect for fall gatherings, holidays, or any special dessert occasion.

Ingredients

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons salted butter, cubed

1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon heavy cream

Pinch of flaky sea salt

For the Pizza Dough:

1/2 cup warm water

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon Streusel:

3 tablespoons cold salted butter, cubed

2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon olive oil

3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

For the Apple Filling:

2 tablespoons salted butter

2 large apples, sliced

3 tablespoons packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Pinch of salt

1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salted caramel by melting the sugar over medium heat until deep golden. Carefully whisk in the butter, then the heavy cream and flaky sea salt until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add the flour, olive oil, cinnamon, and salt. Mix into a shaggy dough, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the streusel by combining the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt, butter, and olive oil until coarse crumbs form.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. For the apple filling, melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook for about 4 minutes, stir in the flour, and cook another 4 to 6 minutes until thickened.
  8. Press the risen dough evenly into a greased 9-inch deep pie dish or pizza pan.
  9. Spread the apple filling over the dough and sprinkle the streusel evenly on top.
  10. Bake for 17 to 19 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the topping is lightly browned.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes, drizzle generously with the salted caramel sauce, and serve warm.

Notes

Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Fuji, or Pink Lady apples work especially well.

Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the streusel for extra crunch.

A splash of vanilla extract in the caramel adds extra richness.

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent dessert.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat in a 325°F (165°C) oven for 8 to 10 minutes.

Freeze the baked pizza without caramel for up to 2 months and add fresh caramel after reheating.
