Description
These homemade Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks are soft, fluffy, and loaded with buttery garlic, parmesan, and gooey mozzarella. They make the perfect side dish, appetizer, or snack served warm with marinara sauce.
Ingredients
1 1/8 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
3/4 cup warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
1 1/2 to 2 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Marinara sauce, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Combine 1/2 cup of the warm water with the sugar and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let stand for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the remaining warm water, olive oil, salt, and vinegar. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or an inverted baking sheet inside.
- Punch down the dough and place it on parchment paper. Roll or stretch into a rectangle about 1/3-inch thick.
- Mix the melted butter with the minced garlic and spread evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle the parmesan cheese evenly over the dough, then top with the shredded mozzarella.
- Carefully transfer the parchment paper and dough onto the preheated baking surface.
- Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
- Cool slightly, slice into breadsticks, and serve warm with marinara sauce if desired.
Notes
Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, dried oregano, or crushed red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
Swap mozzarella with provolone, Monterey Jack, or cheddar for a different cheese blend.
Brush with additional garlic butter and fresh parsley after baking for extra richness.
Add thin slices of pepperoni for a heartier variation.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freeze for up to 2 months and reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5 to 8 minutes.
Microwave individual breadsticks for 20 to 30 seconds for quick reheating, though the oven provides the best texture.
