Description

Hot Buttered Cheerios are a warm, buttery, cinnamon-sugar-coated cereal snack with a nostalgic crunch. This quick and easy treat is perfect for movie nights, after-school snacks, or cozy evenings at home.

Ingredients

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon table salt

1/2 cup salted butter, sliced

1 1/4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

4 cups Cheerios cereal

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir together the sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Melt the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted butter.
  4. Add the Cheerios and cook, stirring constantly, for 3 to 5 minutes until lightly toasted and fragrant.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately toss the Cheerios with the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  6. Spread the cereal mixture out in an even layer and allow it to cool completely before serving.

Notes

Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warm spice flavor.

Mix in chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch.

Substitute brown sugar for a richer caramel-like sweetness.

Add mini pretzels for a sweet-and-salty snack mix.

Drizzle with melted white chocolate after cooling for a dessert-style variation.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
