Description

These soft and fluffy homemade pav buns are buttery, airy, and perfect for sandwiches, sliders, pav bhaji, or serving warm with butter. Made with simple pantry ingredients, they bake up golden and tender every time.

Ingredients

3 cups all purpose flour

2 tbsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tsp instant yeast

1 cup warm milk

2 tbsp butter, melted

2 tbsp oil

1/4 cup warm water

Extra butter for brushing

Milk for brushing tops

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, oil, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour and knead into a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
  7. Shape each portion into a smooth ball.
  8. Arrange the dough balls in a greased baking tray close to each other.
  9. Cover and let them rise again for 30 to 45 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  11. Brush the tops with milk.
  12. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and immediately brush the buns with butter for a soft crust.
  14. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a savory variation, brush the buns with garlic butter after baking.

Sprinkle sesame seeds on top before baking for extra texture.

For sweeter buns, slightly increase the sugar and serve with jam or honey.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Freeze cooled buns in a sealed bag for longer storage.

Reheat in the oven or microwave briefly until soft and warm.
