Description

Fill your home with the fresh, sweet fragrance of strawberries, aromatic basil, bright lemon, and warm vanilla. This easy Strawberry Basil Simmer Pot creates a naturally inviting summer-inspired aroma with just five simple ingredients.

Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

8 fresh basil leaves

1 lemon, sliced

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries, basil leaves, and lemon thoroughly. Slice the strawberries and lemon into thin pieces to help release their natural fragrances.
  2. Place the sliced strawberries, fresh basil leaves, lemon slices, and vanilla extract into a medium saucepan. Pour in 4 cups of water.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, allowing the fruity, herbal, and citrus aromas to develop.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for 30–60 minutes, allowing the fragrance to spread throughout your home.
  5. Check the water level regularly and add more water as needed to keep the ingredients submerged. Never leave the simmer pot unattended or allow the saucepan to boil dry.
  6. Once the desired fragrance has been achieved, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely. Discard the ingredients and clean the saucepan.

Notes

For the best fragrance, use ripe strawberries, fresh basil leaves, and a fresh lemon.

Frozen strawberries can replace fresh strawberries. Add them directly to the saucepan without thawing.

For a strawberry mint variation, replace the basil leaves with fresh mint.

For a sweeter citrus fragrance, substitute orange slices for the lemon slices.

For a more herbal aroma, add a small sprig of fresh rosemary.

For a warmer strawberry vanilla fragrance, slightly increase the vanilla extract and reduce the basil.

For a floral variation, add a small pinch of dried culinary lavender.

Vanilla extract can be omitted for a brighter, more herbal fragrance.

If fresh basil is unavailable, substitute approximately 1 teaspoon dried basil, adjusting to preference.

Simmer for approximately 30 minutes for a lighter fragrance or up to 60 minutes for a stronger aroma.

Always monitor the water level, add water as needed, and never leave a simmering saucepan unattended.

For short-term storage, cool completely, transfer to an airtight container, and refrigerate promptly for up to 24 hours.

To reuse, return the mixture to a saucepan, add enough fresh water to cover the ingredients, and heat gently until simmering.

For advance preparation, freeze fresh sliced strawberries and lemon together, then add fresh basil, vanilla, and water when ready to use.

Discard the mixture if it develops an unpleasant odor, signs of spoilage, or visible mold.

A slow cooker may be used on low heat, following the manufacturer’s instructions for lid position, water levels, and safe operation.

This simmer pot is intended exclusively for home fragrance and is not meant for consumption. Keep away from children and pets.
