Description

Tyrokroketes are crispy Greek fried cheese balls with a golden breadcrumb coating and a warm, creamy center, perfect as an appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

200 g feta cheese

150 g graviera or mozzarella, grated

1 large egg

23 tbsp flour or breadcrumbs

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup flour

2 eggs, for coating

Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Crumble the feta cheese into a large mixing bowl. Add the grated cheese and mix gently until combined.
  2. Mix in one egg until the mixture becomes slightly sticky.
  3. Gradually add flour or breadcrumbs until the mixture is soft but firm enough to shape. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Scoop small portions and roll them into compact balls.
  5. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  6. Roll each ball in flour, dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs. Repeat coating for extra crispiness if desired.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F). Fry the cheese balls in small batches for 2–3 minutes, turning gently until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes

Add fresh herbs like dill, parsley, or oregano for extra flavor.

Include chili flakes for a slight kick.

Use mozzarella instead of graviera for a milder taste.

Chill mixture well to prevent balls from falling apart.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in oven or air fryer.

Freeze coated balls before frying for longer storage.
