Description
Tyrokroketes are crispy Greek fried cheese balls with a golden breadcrumb coating and a warm, creamy center, perfect as an appetizer or party snack.
Ingredients
200 g feta cheese
150 g graviera or mozzarella, grated
1 large egg
2–3 tbsp flour or breadcrumbs
1 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup flour
2 eggs, for coating
Oil for frying
Instructions
- Crumble the feta cheese into a large mixing bowl. Add the grated cheese and mix gently until combined.
- Mix in one egg until the mixture becomes slightly sticky.
- Gradually add flour or breadcrumbs until the mixture is soft but firm enough to shape. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Scoop small portions and roll them into compact balls.
- Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Roll each ball in flour, dip into the beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs. Repeat coating for extra crispiness if desired.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F). Fry the cheese balls in small batches for 2–3 minutes, turning gently until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
Notes
Add fresh herbs like dill, parsley, or oregano for extra flavor.
Include chili flakes for a slight kick.
Use mozzarella instead of graviera for a milder taste.
Chill mixture well to prevent balls from falling apart.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in oven or air fryer.
Freeze coated balls before frying for longer storage.
